Loughborough Lightning 58 v 28 Northern Thunder 5th May 2006

Loughborough Lightning remain in second place leading in to the last game of the figleaves.com Super League competition after a good victory over Northern Thunder.

In the first quarter the Lightning shooters got in to an early rhythm. There were some good feeds coming from the England Centre court combination of Olivia Murphy and Karen Atkinson and Lightning’s Defence looked strong. Lightning won the quarter 15-10

However it was the second quarter that saw Lightning really exert their dominance. Alex Astle finding her shooting range, converting 11 out of 14 shots. With Charlotte O ‘ Neil coming on at WA and made a strong start with some good interceptions and accurate feeding into the circle. Vicky Percy remained strong at WD turning over many of the Thunder attacking movements. Lightning finished the quarter 16-4 (31-14)

During the half time break the Lightning Coach Rosie Port made some changes. A new shooting combination of Becky James and Gemma Wiseman replaced Alex Astle and Lisa Stephenson at GS and GA. The two new shooters combined well to create some good shooting opportunities. Hannah Reid was brought on at GK, she combined well with Ama Agbeze to keep the lightning Defence strong. Thunder still battled hard against a strong and experienced lighting defence. The 3rd quarter was drawn 12-12 (43-26)

In the final quarter Lightning made another change Sarah Penny replaced Hannah Reid at GK. Sarah Penny and Ama Agbeze communicated well and limited the Northern Thunder shooters to few chances. At the other end of the court the Lightning shooters were in a groove and produced some fantastic shoots. 15-2 (58-28)
