Leeds Carnegie Talent Vs Loughborough Lightning Talent

Lightning Talent entered their penultimate game of the season with a desire to win after a disappointing loss last week.

The first quarter was a brilliant start to the game for Lightning, who dominated from the first whistle, with great play from all areas off the court and so taking a well deserved lead 13-4.

The second quarter saw changes to their line-ups. Rachel Saville at WD and Leeds brought on 3 new players and changed their squad around. Leeds came out in this quarter determined to make a game of it and had made crucial changes, which Lightning Talent took time to adjust to, but managed to hold on to the quarter 6 -5.

More changes at the start of the third quarter. Rachel Bramall was brought back onto GS by Leeds and both her and Rachel Shaw at GA made it very difficult for the Lightning defence, only missing 2 of the 20 attempts they had on goal. The lead Lightning had dropped by 3 goals with Leeds capitalising on the errors made by Lightning, limited the attempts at goal to only 6 in the quarter. Leeds took the third quarter 18 – 5.

After a positive circle of ‘psyche’ and further changes for the final quarter. Loughborough were determined not to give up. The final quarter was a nail biting one, Loughborough pulled back to 29-29, and both sides went goal for goal. Loughborough were head by 1 with 30 seconds to go, Leeds brought the ball to the GS, who then missed. Loughborough then knew all that was needed was to play possession netball. The final whistle sounded and Lightning were ecstatic they had won the game. The immense effort that had been given by the team defending all areas of the court and the team’s new found hunger for the ball paid off. The final score – a win for Loughborough 36 – 35.
