Lightning Talent V Celtic Dragons (Report) National Indoor Athletics Centre Cardiff 27th October 2007

The start of the new Talent League saw Loughborough Lightning talent squad travel to Celtic Dragons. Arriving at 12:30 with the match starting at 1:00pm, it was a quick change to get on court to warm up.

First quarter started, with Dragons scoring the first couple of goals, lightning defence of Katie Bradshaw (GD), Nicola Caunt (GK), and Jessica Hartland (WD) worked tirelessly to force the errors to get the ball to our attack of Sarah-Jane O’Sullivan (C) and Joy Davies (WA) who feed the shooters Hayley Brook (GS) Nina Warren (GA & Vice Captain) whose shots were on target, enabling Lightning to take the quarter 9-6

Second quarter lightning court play was very steady, but unfortunately the shoots were not being converted, losing the quarter 8-10

Third quarter seen a change with Sophie Holdstock (Capt) coming on as Wing Attack, and Rachel Sharrod as Goal Shooter putting height into the shooting circle. Lightning attacking and defence play was too much for Celtic Dragons to handle as Lightning turned up the pressure by challenging and defending every ball forcing the errors, keeping possession when attacking, delivering it to the shooters to convert , which lead to a fantastic 19 – 3 quarter win

Despite Lightning’s nineteen goal lead the shooters kept their composure and found space in the circle to convert the goals, the centre court moved with ease around the court feeding the shooters, defence communication in and around the circle denied Celtic opportunities to put the ball in to the circle, which saw Celtic only scoring four goals, winning the quarter 12-4

Final Score Lightning Talent 48 Celtic Dragons 23

Bench: Laura Price; Jayde Savage; Rachel Saville
